We believe in giving more than a curt, and useless, “Try again.” We will give you a detailed, personal critique of your work describing what worked well and what could be improved in an effort to  help you move closer to your goal of publication in the future.

Thank you, and we hope to hear from you soon!

Thank you for your interest in publishing with BrickHouse Books' imprint, the New Poets Series!

During busy submission seasons, our reply times increase.  Please allow up to 6 months for a reply.  After that period, please follow up with us via our Contact page.

What We Accept:
This division of BrickHouse Books is devoted to the publication of first books by promising poets who have never had a collection of poems of over 30 pages published. Please note that chapbooks do not disqualify poets from being “new,” but full-length books do. Chapbooks are 42 pages  or fewer. Books are 43 pages and above.

Submitting to the New Poets Series imprint is slightly different from submitting directly to BHB.

Submission Requirements:

We require the following:

Your Entire Manuscript

A properly formatted manuscript of original poetry, 42-80 pages in length.  We only accept .doc or .docx files sent as an email attachment.  Do not paste your ms into the body of your email. Make sure your title page includes all necessary contact information.

A Cover/Query Letter

Tell us about your work, including your intended audience, the length of the work, and other standard query information.  Be sure to tell us you are submitting to the New Poets Series imprint and why.

A Reading Fee

We are a small press and a non-profit corporation. Your reading fee will  garner you detailed feedback on your manuscript. The reading fee for NPS submissions is a flat-rate of $10.

If you are not accepted, you will receive more than a simple rejection letter. We believe in giving more than a curt, and useless, “Try again.” We will give you a detailed, personal critique of your work describing what worked well and what could be improved in an effort to  help you move closer to your goal of publication in the future.

The Annual Stonewall Chapbook Competition:

The Stonewall Chapbook Competition is dedicated toward highlighting  the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community.  The competition offers authors a  chance to have a chapbook published by BrickHouse Books’ Stonewall imprint.  This is a wonderful opportunity for LGBTQIA+ authors to have  their shorter works of poetry or short fiction published (BHB’s normal  submissions guidelines prefer a minimum of 50 pages; Stonewall is 20-30 pages).

The prize is: publication of your chapbook, along with a featured online press release announcing both your win and the  release of your chapbook.

Your judges are: Senior staff members of BrickHouse Books and a special guest judge.

Your submission deadline is: August 15th.

Winner is declared in: December.

Note that there may be instances where we extend deadlines.  Any extensions will be announced on our website.

Submission Requirements:

We require the following:

Your Entire Manuscript

A properly formatted chapbook manuscript of 20-30 pages. We only accept .doc, .docx, and .pdf files, with a preference toward Word documents for ease of reviewing.  Please make sure your cover page contains all necessary contact information.

A Cover/Query Letter

Tell us about your work, including the genre, your intended audience, the length of the work, and other standard query information.
